Female mountain lion walks in front of cam

Remote camera traps are a window into the intimate lives of wild animals. Video footage obtained through this method allows us to observe wildlife in their natural habitat without disturbing their behavior, giving us a glimpse of their world.

I'd like to introduce you to the female mountain lion of the Verdugo Mountains. She is uncollared and the "girlfriend" of P-41. I hope to capture more footage of both of them before the study concludes in June and I move to Humboldt, CA. This video was taken outside of the Stough Canyon Nature Area boundaries in the Verdugo mountains. After this was filmed I adjusted the camera so it would be tilted more towards the ground. I hope the next shot gets her whole body in the frame.

Special thanks to Denis Callet (deniscallet.com) for scouting this location with me and sharing his intimate knowledge on these mountains. Check out the video he got of the female lion with her cubs in 2015. P-41 was the father of this litter. Unfortunately these two kittens did not make it to adulthood.

In the next video you can hear the female lion calling out. Be sure to turn up your sound.
